BRIDGEPORT – Police arrested a Bridgeport woman for animal cruelty Thursday after an officer encountered her sick and limping pit bull.

Charlene Draper, 29, of Catherine Street, was charged with cruelty to animals and failure to comply with dog ownership requirements.

On Saturday, September 5 just after noon, a Bridgeport police officer responded to a dispatch call regarding animal cruelty.

Upon arrival on scene, the officer spoke with a witness who said he found a large pit bull at Draper’s apartment and that he knocked on the door, which was slightly open to the entrance of Draper’s apartment.

Her dog, “Cash”, came limping outside. “Cash” was malnourished and could not put his left hind leg down. The muscles in the leg had atrophied badly.

The witness claimed that Draper abuses the dog and had been trying to sell him to street people in recent weeks.

The police officer brought “Cash” to Bridgeport Animal Control and CA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center treated “Cash” and gave him physical therapy for his leg.
