What Changes Will Bridgeport PD Make After Brutality Charges?

BRIDGEPORT – On Friday, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Connecticut ruled the death of Wayne Bentley on August 1 a homicide.

The autopsy determined the cause of death as drowning with blunt force trauma of the head and neck, ruling the incident as a homicide.

Bentley, 42, of West Haven, was found in the water of Ash Creek behind the Chubby’s Bar & Grill at 3488 Fairfield Avenue on the Bridgeport/Fairfield line.

A call was made to the Bridgeport Police Department just after 1 a.m. that morning about a fight that had taken place in the rear of the restaurant.

Bridgeport police, fire, and ambulance – as well as the Fairfield police – arrived on scene.

Apparently two individuals involved in the fight had fallen into the water behind the restaurant as a result of their fight.

Bentley was pulled from the water.

The other man involved in the fight fled the scene and is still on the loose.

No weapons were involved with this incident.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the Bridgeport Detective Bureau at (203) 581-5201.
