EAST HARTFORD – A 16-year-old male faces a number of charges after a sexual assault in the commuter lot off Route 15 earlier this month, according to state police, and is suspected in a second assault that occured after a home invasion on Saturday.
State police made the arrest for an assault that occurred in an East Hartford commuter lot in the early morning hours of Thursday, September 3.
At around 2:30 a.m. on September 3, state police responded to an Econo Lodge on Main Street in East Hartford for a reported assault.
Local police initially responded, but upon investigation determined the assault occurred in the exit 90 commuter lot off of route 15.
Upon arrival, state police conducted a search for other victims and no other victims were found, while the victim was transported to Manchester Hospital for the evaluation of her injuries. Detectives determined she was physically and sexually assaulted.
East Hartford police tried to stop the suspect who drove off in a car, which he crashed, then ran away from the scene.
On Saturday, September 19, East Hartford police investigated a home invasion in which a similar sexual assault occurred.
They identified a male suspect and in conjunction with state police detectives, obtained a DNA sample from the suspect. His DNA was provided to the forensic science laboratory and on Monday confirmed through DNA analysis that the male suspect DNA profile was a match with evidence seized during the state police investigation.
On Thursday, state police detectives arrest the 16-year-old juvenile male suspect at the Juvenile Detention Facility in Hartford. He is scheduled to appear in Hartford Juvenile Court on Friday. He is charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree assault, second-degree strangulation and first-degree kidnapping, among other charges.
