THOMPSON – Police arrested a man they said tried to rob a Thompson store at knifepoint.

On Sunday just before 8 a.m. state police responded to Bud’s Country Store on Quinabaug Road in Thompson for a reported attempted armed robbery.

The store clerk told police that he was working at the counter when a man wearing a black mask over his face walked into the store. The man showed a knife and demanded money.

He chased the robber from the store and the robber ran to a black car parked a few yards north on Route 131 and took off north into Dudley, Mass.

The suspect was described as a thin, white male, believed to be in his early 20s and between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with white hood strings, ripped blue jeans with a long belt, and dark-colored sneakers with white outlined soles.

He didn’t get away with any money, said police.

Police said they were able to develop a suspect, working with Dudley, Mass. police, and on Tuesday, the suspect, Lukasz Zurawski, 26, of Lake Street, in Webster, Mass., was spotted at Dunkin Donuts on Rte. 197 in Dudley and arrested on active arrest warrants from Massachusetts.

On Wednesday morning, Zurawski was returned to Connecticut from Massachusetts and placed under arrest by state police for first-degree attempted robbery, second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace.

He was held on $50,000 bail.
