NEW BRITAIN–Police have made an arrest after a little girl was abducted from her bedroom window in the middle of the night.

On August 16, a young girl was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and then returned through her bedroom window, all while two other young children slept in beds in the same room.

The suspect got away, and the description was vague due to the age of the girl–between 20 and 50 years old, light skinned with a thin dark-colored beard, dark eyes and short hair. She also said he had an accent, and was wearing a dark-colored hat with blue logo similar to lightening bolt.

Alexy Martinez-Mercado, 27, of New Britain, was identified as a possible suspect and arrested on October 1. He has been charged with first-degree kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault of a minor, home invasion and risk of injury to a minor by sexual contact. He is being held on a $1 million bond.

Martinez-Mercado has been in custody since September 24, when he was arrested with two counts of criminal attempt to commit burglary in the second degree. He was not able to make the $500,000 bond.

In the burglary case, the crime was similar in nature in the sense that Martinez-Mercado tried to enter an occupied home at night.
