John Martins, 52, died Sunday after he succumbed to injuries he received in a crash in North Stonington early last month.
He leaves behind his wife and three children.
To honor him for the life he lived a procession of trucks left from Rentschler Field at 6:45 a.m. Friday, arrive in North Stonington where they were expected to meet more drivers on the way to Rhode Island for his funeral at Keefe Funeral Home in Lincoln, RI.
Many of the trucks taking part in the procession are tow trucks and that is because Martins, a self-made businessman, owned a towing company in Pawtucket and other businesses in both Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Martins died from injuries he suffered in a fiery crash on September 4 in North Stonington.
He was driving a duty wrecker on I-95, blew a tire, his truck then went down an embankment and hit a tree before bursting into flames.
A passerby helped pull him out but after three weeks of fighting to stay alive he succumbed to his injuries, Sunday September 27.
In a Facebook Page titled, "Prayers for John Martins," friends expressed their condolences and fellow businessmen expressed their thankfulness for being fortunate enough to do business with him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Mary's Church in Pawtucket.
