CROMWELL — TPC River Highlands, the site of the annual Travelers Championship golf tournament, is getting a makeover.

Officials have begun a multi-million dollar project that is expected to be completed by the spring.

David Corrado, the general manager at TPC River Highlands, says plans call for rebuilding and repositioning all the bunkers on the course, using new drainage and sand. Workers also will be stabilizing the course’s signature lake, to prevent further erosion and improve aesthetics. They also plan to tweak some greens, put in some new tee boxes, repair cart paths and improve some viewing areas for fans.

Corrado says the idea is to keep the current layout, while improving the course for both players and spectators.

Next year’s Traveler’s Championship is scheduled for the first week of August.
