TORRINGTON — Police say one person is dead after a vehicle hit a utility pole in northwestern Connecticut.
Police say Route 4 was shut down early Monday morning between Pothier Road and University Drive in Torrington following the crash, which occurred around 1:15 a.m.
The car veered off the south side of the road and hit a telephone pole, then continued on and hit a stone fall, and came to a final halt after hitting a tree.
The driver, and sole occupant, died from his injuries. He was identified as Michael Chase, 37, of Torrington.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
