Shelton home invasion arrests

SHELTON — Police have made several arrests after a man was beaten during a home invasion.

On September 8, the victim called police to report he was in his driveway and had been attacked by three men. Police found the man bleeding “profusely” from his head. He was taken to the hospital for the serious injury.

The investigation revealed that a female juvenile, a male juvenile, as well as three men–Joseph Cahill, 18, of North Haven; Robert Torelli, 22, of Branford; and Shawn Craig, 19, of North Haven–conspired to rob and attack the victim.

Police say the female suspect called the victim and asked him to pick her up and take her to his home. When she arrived, she followed the plan that the group set up, and she got the victim intoxicated.

The girl then texted her accomplices to say the victim was sufficiently intoxicated, and that she was leaving the door open.

When three of the men approached the victim’s door, he happened to walk outside, and the three men are then said to have hit him in the face with a facsimile firearm and assaulted him.

During the assault a neighbor came outside, and the men fled.

More arrests are expected in the case.

Shawn Craig and Joseph Cahill were arrested on October 2 and charged with criminal attempt at robbery in the first degree, criminal attempt at home invasion and assault in the first degree. Craig was also charged with carrying a dangerous weapon.

Robert Torelli was arrested on October 5 and charged with criminal attempt at robbery in the first degree, criminal attempt at home invasion and conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree.

The 17-year-old female suspect was arrested previously for the case and charged with criminal attempt at robbery in the first degree, criminal attempt at home invasion and conspiracy to commit assault in the first degree.
