EAST WINDSOR – A drunk man fought with cops in East Windsor Friday night and ended up getting Tased, according to police.

At around 10 p.m. police responded to 9A Maple Street in East Windsor for a report of an intoxicated person.

The homeowners wanted Joshua Leighton, 21, of Main Street, to leave their property, according to police.

Officers determined to take him to the hospital, due to his state of inebriation.

As medics arrived, Leighton got mad and assumed a fighting stance with officers, according to police.

Officers handcuffed him after a fight and placed him under arrest. During the fight he kicked an officer in the nose and forehead, causing minor injuries.

During processing at the police department, police said Leighton again fought with officers and kicked the sergeant on duty. One officer used their department-issued Taser to subdue Leighton during that struggle.

Leighton was charged with violation of assault on a public safety official, interfering with an officer, second-degree breach of peace, possession of less than 1/2 oz. of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He is being held on $10,000 bail.
