STAMFORD — A Connecticut man has been arrested after trying to enter a courthouse with 23 bags of marijuana stuffed into his pants.

State police say 25-year-old Joseph Carey was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he attempted to pass through the metal detectors at the entrance of Stamford Superior Court.

A marshal at the entry noticed an “abnormal bulge” in Carey’s pocket as he approached the metal detector. Carey said the bulge was just an air freshener in his pocket. But the marshal asked Carey to unzip his pants anyway, revealing a clear plastic container containing 23 plastic bags of marijuana.

Carey was charged with possession of 25 grams of marijuana and possession with intent to sell. He’s scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court Thursday on the charges.
