NEW LONDON–Police have made two arrests after a long investigation into the production and sale of K2, or synthetic marijuana.

At 9 a.m. on Saturday, Anthony Anderson, 31, and Jessica Anderson, 30, of New London, were arrested. Both were charged with operating a drug factory, possession of hallucinogenics, possession of hallucinogenics with intent to sell and three counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Officers from the State Police  Statewide Narcotics East unit assisted with the investigation and arrest, which came after officers served a search and seizure warrant to a West Coit Street apartment.

During the raid, officers found 92 bags of K2, which had a street value of $4,000, a fake firearm, drug packaging paraphernalia, and more than $1,300 in cash. A car was also seized from the residence.

Nearly 20 people in Willimantic have been sent to the hospital due to K2 overdoses and tainted batches of the drug so far this year, and in that town it is considered an epidemic.
