Franklin Avenue Hartford fire

HARTFORD–Firefighters braved the rain and wind Wednesday night to fight a massive fire in the city’s South End.

Flames ignited a building that houses residents and a catering business called City Fare at 86  Franklin Avenue.  Heavy fire could be seen emanating from the roof. Smoke was smelled from as far away as 2 miles.

Assistant Chief Scott Brady tells FOX 61 that his crews rescued a man from the building’s second story. That person refused medical attention on scene. No rescue personnel were hurt.

Brady was unsure if the building is a total loss but said the damage is significant. City inspectors will determine if the building needs to be torn down.

Three adults were displaced by the fire.
