STORRS — UConn is again talking about hiking tuition.
Chief Financial Officer Scott Jordan told the university’s Board of Trustees on Wednesday that the school anticipates a $40 million budget gap in the 2017 fiscal year, before any new state budget cuts.
It currently costs an in-state student about $25,500 a year to attend UConn, with about $13,300 of that for tuition and fees.
Out-of -state students pay about $47,000 annually, about $35,000 in tuition and fees.
Jordan told trustees that not increasing tuition could lead to problems such as larger class sizes, fewer courses offered, and the elimination of some sports.
Jordan says the school hopes to have a tuition plan in place by year’s end.
