HARTFORD — The state has agreed to pay about $325,000 to settle an appeal by the former head of the state labor relations agency, who was fired last year.

Under the settlement, signed Wednesday, Linda Yelmini will be reinstated to her $170,000-a-year job for one day with back pay dating to January, when her layoff took effect.

Yelmini, former Director of Labor Relations, said the firing was illegal and was done because of her public criticism of some state officials.

The Courant reports she will also retire immediately, with nearly an extra year’s credit toward her pension.

A statement on the settlement was released by the Office of Policy and Management that said the agreement “will bring closure to a grievance filed by Ms. Yelmini earlier this year.”
