HARTFORD -- It was four years ago today that Connecticut encountered "snowtober."

The historic 2011 snowstorm battered the state on October 28 when a nor'easter mixed with unusually cold air, leaving the strange sight of about a foot of snow on the ground and leaves still in the trees. During that storm, 884,000 residents in the state lost power.

Fast forward one year--or rewind three years ago-- to the day Superstorm Sandy made landfall. The storm proved devastating to Connecticut's shoreline, along with the coasts of New Jersey and New York. There were 630,000 Connecticut residents who lost power, and a massive 8 million in the Northeast.

Sandy was the second costliest tropical cyclone on record, just behind Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
