HARTFORD–Sen. Richard Blumenthal is speaking out about the dangers of artificial turf fields.
He’s demanding an independent federal investigation into the health effects from exposure to the crumb rubber used in turf. The turf is made out of scraps from tires, and Blumenthal says we should know more about its impact on children’s health before we use it so widespread.
“Do you want your child ingesting or swallowing material from the scrap tires that you’ve driven on for thousands of miles? Rubber, chemical, potentially carcinogenic. Makes no sense”
According to the synthetic turf council, field turf is used on more than 10,000 athletic fields and playgrounds across the country.=
