NEW HAVEN – At around 9:44 a.m., police were dispatched to the Wells Fargo Bank at 205 Church Street.

Bank officials reported a robber approached a teller’s window and demanded money. A weapon wasn’t displayed. The teller handed over an amount of cash. The robber left through the front door but it isn’t know what direction he fled.

The robber was described as a light-complexioned Hispanic man in his 30s. He was wearing a navy-blue Champion® hooded sweatshirt, dark sweat pants, tan Timberland® work boots and carried a black bag in his hand.

Police reviewed the bank’s surveillance system and confirmed their suspect as Juan Cruz, 37, a homeless man from New Haven.

Cruz is a convicted felon and on probation. He is wanted on a warrant for the October 20 robbery of the same Wells Fargo bank. He is a suspect in the October 15 robbery of the Santander bank located at 215 Grand Avenue. He was recently released from a seven-year prison sentence for robbing an East Haven bank.

Anyone who has information on his whereabouts is urged to call police at 203-946-6304.
