NORWICH — Police arrested a woman Friday morning on assault, narcotics and motor vehicle charges after they said she tried to hit an officer while being arrested.

Police said they pulled over a vehicle with two people in it on Terrace Avenue around 2 a.m. Friday.

There was a man and a woman in car and the man ran from the vehicle and the woman moved into the driver’s seat, according to police.

Police found cocaine they believe was packaged for sale. When the went to arrest the woman, she started to struggle. Police said she “took a swing at an officer,” and struck an officer in the face. Sarah Lassiter, 27, of Groton, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, operating with a suspended license, interfering with an officer, assault on an officer and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute.

She was held on $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court on Friday. Police said Lassiter has a number of arrests on motor vehicle and assault charges.

Police have identified the man who ran from the car and a warrant is being prepared for his arrest.
