STAFFORD – Police recovered military medals more than a year after they were reported stolen during a burglary.

In March of 2014, a burglary was reported on Bradway Pond Road in Stafford.

Several items were taken from the home, including cash, government IDs and military medals from the victim’s service in Iraq.

Investigators conducted interviews, reviewed evidence and followed leads, but were unable to locate the stolen items.

On Wednesday, November 4, a good Samaritan walking in the woods found items that he thought were suspicious and reported it to police.

Stafford Police Sergeant James Kodzis, who recently retired from the Connecticut State Police, went out to the site in the woods with a metal detector to try to locate more items. He found 33 more items, including the victim’s U.S. Army military medals and award ribbons.

The items were returned to the victim and the case remains under investigation.
