TRUMBULL -- Two Trumbull police officers and a suspect were taken to the hospital after a chase and a crash Friday morning.

According to Trumbull Police Chief Michael Lombardo, Officer Kyle Lavin was attempting to stop a Jeep around 1:30 a.m. The Jeep entered Route 25 southbound at Daniels Farm Road. Police said the driver continued to Old Town Road, exit 6,  when the suspect crashed into the police cruiser with two officers in it at the intersection of Old Town Road and Seltsam Road just off exit 6 on Route 25 in Trumbull.

The officers were injured but were able to take the suspect, Jose Rey, 50, of Bridgeport into custody.

Rey was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, interfering with a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen plate, reckless driving, engaging an officer in pursuit, and failure to obey a red light. He is being held on a $75,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court.

The two officers were taken to a local hospital but are expected to be okay.
