MILFORD — An Oxford man who fatally shot his estranged wife and wounded his mother-in-law last year is facing sentencing.

Scott Gellatly is expected to receive a 45-year prison sentence Tuesday in Milford Superior Court. He pleaded guilty to murder and attempted murder in September.

Police say Gellatly broke into the Oxford home of his in-laws, Douglas and Merry Jackson, on May 7, 2014, and shot his estranged wife, Lori Gellatly, and Merry Jackson. Merry Jackson survived. The Gellatlys’ twin toddlers also were in the home, but were unharmed and placed in the care of relatives.

Lori Gellatly had obtained a restraining order against her husband shortly before the shooting, calling him mentally ill and violent. The killing came a day before a court hearing on whether to extend the restraining order.
