Tumbles, the wheelchair dog

Tumbles the puppy is pretty lucky.

After being born without front legs, he was rescued by Friends of the Shelter Dogs in Athens, Ohio and placed in a foster home. The pup’s foster mom, Karen Pilcher, told ABC News that Tumbles was initially bottle fed.

He was able to get around by balancing his front his chest and nose and pushing with his legs, but veterinarians said he needed some help to develop properly.

Pilcher decided to turn to the staff at the Ohio University Innovation Center. The center used a 3D printer to create a tiny wheelchair to replace his front legs. They were able build it in 14 hours.

Tumbles is continuing to get therapy as he learns how to get around.

Pilcher said the Innovation Center has promised to make Tumbles’ wheels for the rest of his life.
