Hundreds lose power in Southington after trailer hits pole

SOUTHINGTON — A trailer became detached from the truck towing it and hit a telephone pole, causing a power outage for about 600 customers.

The crash happened shortly after 10 a.m. on Friday in the area of Marion Avenue and Burritt Street. A trailer being towed by a truck detached and rolled backwards into a pole. Police said the pole and the transformer were taken down.

Marion Avenue will be closed from Defashion Street to Burritt Street as crews repair the damage. At 3 p.m., the trailer was in the process of being removed from the accident scene and work on replacing the pole was about to begin.

The area will be closed to vehicular traffic for several more hours, according to police.

According to Eversource, about 600 customers lost power.
