HARTFORD–Many Americans, including a Connecticut senator, are not happy about the FDA’s recent approval of the sale of genetically modified salmon without a label.

It’s the first GMO from an animal to be sold in America. The salmon will be spliced with the ocean pout, a different fish, which will make the GMO salmon grow twice as fast as a traditional salmon.

The catch is the FDA isn’t requiring the fish to be labeled as genetically modified, upsetting many who feel they have the right to know what they’re eating.

“They may decide they want to buy it. They may decide it’s safe to consume, They may decide it’s preferable. But they should know,” Blumenthal said at a press conference Monday.
