SOUTHBURY — Police arrested a Ridgefield man for driving under the influence, after a crash involving a Southbury police officer.

The accident happened Sunday shortly after midnight on Route 67 near the Exit 15 ramp for I-84. The officer Kevin Burns, 52 of Southbury, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for minor injuries.

Police said Todd Schoenherr, 47, of Ridgefield, hit an officer’s car when Schoenherr went though a red light, making a left turn as the officer was traveling down Route 67.

Police said Schoenherr  had a strong odor of alcohol on him and failed the field sobriety tests.

A woman, Lisa Shoenherr, and Schoenherr’s three children ages 10, 8 and 5 were in the car with him according to police. They were not injured.

Shoenherr was arrested and charged with risk of injury to a minor, driving under the influence and failure to obey a traffic signal. Schoenherr was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Dec  9.
