Police arrest man after shots are fired at a Mercedes dealer

Around 7 p.m. Tuesday, employees at the New Country Motor Cars, 1 Weston St. reported a shooter in the dealership parking lot. Police cleared the lot and dealership but could not locate the shooter. Witnesses said a man, dressed in black, had been shooting at an employee in the lot.  No one was injured. The intended victim and the witnesses told police that up to five shots were fired and two vehicles were damaged.

While police were on the scene, an employee at a nearby McDonald’s reported a man seated in the restaurant with a gun. Officers found a man with revolver in his lap and took him into custody.

Willis Wright, 38, of Hartford, was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal attempt at assault, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. After he was arrested, Wright told police he was the one shooting at the dealership and believed someone was trying to kill him. He was held and is expected to be arraigned Wednesday. The two vehicles damaged were a 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLA250 SUV with passenger side roof projectile damage and a 2016 Smart fortwo with passenger side door projectile damage.
