KILLINGWORTH - State police found a man and a woman dead inside their Rt. 148 home after what they're calling a "disturbance."

Troopers were called to a home on 8 Chester Road just before 8:30 Wednesday morning and said when they arrived, they found the woman and man dead in the same room.

Two young children were in the home at the time, and were turned over to family members and The Department of Children and Families.

It isn't known if a weapon was found in the home.

"We're all shocked, they seemed like nice enough people." said John Mondrga, who lives across the street from the home.

Police later identified the victims as Billy Newman, 57, and Lauren Beebe, 48. According to court records, Beebe had filed for divorce from Newman earlier this month.

"These people were doing a lot of yardwork, a lot of trees in front they took down, and that was just weeks ago ," said Mondrga said.

Beebe worked as veterinarian at Killingworth Animal Hospital since June 2013.  She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University in 2003, and worked in Louisiana until "family ties drew her back to Connecticut in 2013," according to the animal hospital website.

Beebe was also an instructor at the Middlesex Community College Veterinary Technology program.

The Killingworth Animal Hospital posted a sign on its front door, saying it was closing Wednesday at noon "due to a personal tragedy."

Detectives from the Central District Major Crime Squad are investigating the incident, which is said to be isolated.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.
