HARTFORD -- Along with the tens of thousands of drivers on Connecticut roads Wednesday and through the weekend, there will also be state troopers. Expect more of them too, planning to keep the highways safe for the holiday rush.

State troopers will have their eyes peeled for aggressive, unsafe and drunk drivers. They're looking to prevent and reduce accidents with DUI check points and patrols.

Looking at the most recent federal data on traffic patterns, Connecticut is in the top three with its fatal drunken driving crash rates at 41% compared to 31% nationally. Data also shows that the state is nearly dead last when it comes to reporting drunken driving data in those fatal accidents. It is state law to report blood alcohol concentration.

Drivers are also asked to do their part this holiday. That includes driving the speed limit, staying off phones while behind the wheel, and if you have anything to drink don't get behind the wheel.
