MILFORD — Electric car-maker Tesla Motors plans to resume efforts to pass state legislation allowing them to open showrooms in Connecticut and sell its vehicles directly to consumers.
Earlier this year, the Senate failed to take up a bill that would have allowed Tesla to open up to three new retail stores in the state. The same bill had passed the House of Representatives in May by a wide margin.
Officials from the California-based car manufacturer announced their intentions following a tour of the company’s service center in Milford on Tuesday. The next session of the General Assembly begins in February.
Tesla estimates each of its proposed showrooms could create 12 to 25 jobs and generate $1.7 million in sales taxes.
Current state law prevents car manufacturers from selling directly to consumers.
