NEW BRITAIN – A man was discovered dead on the porch of his 50 Schultz Street home in New Britain after a fire broke out there Saturday night.

The fire was out just before 10 p.m. but a ladder truck remained on the scene an hour later.

A neighbor called the fire in just after 7:15 p.m. and crews arrived less than 10 minutes later.

Michael Tocoinis, 56, of New Britain was found lying on the front porch.

Fire officials believe the fire started on the front porch and was contained to that part of the home.

Tocoinis was the sole occupant of the home and the only person inside when it started.

The fire department doesn’t suspect foul play but New Britain Police and the state fire marshal’s office are on scene and are investigating.
