MIDDLETOWN — Connecticut state police say arrests and accidents were down this Thanksgiving weekend from last year.

Troopers made 980 speeding arrests, down from last year’s 1,106 and issued 2,639 hazardous moving violations versus 3,538 in 2014, according to statistics released Sunday.

Driving under the influence arrests were down from 52 in 2014 to 42 this weekend, as were accidents, which declined from 934 investigated last year to 389 investigated this weekend.

Police say fewer of those accident involved injuries, though there was one fatal accident this year, the same number as last year.

Stepped up enforcement of drunk driving and aggressive driving across the state started Wednesday and ends 11:59 p.m. Sunday.

Hazardous moving violations include unsafe lane changes, following too closely, cell phone usage and failure to signal.
