HARTFORD - Skeletal remains of five people stolen from a Massachusetts graveyard were recovered in Hartford on Friday.

Hartford Police officers responded to 245 Preston Street as part of an ongoing investigation, acting on a report of "stored human skeletal remains." Respondents made contact with a tenant living on the 2nd floor of the residence. Police say he was forthcoming and cooperative, showing them where the remains were stored.

The Major Crimes Division assumed immediate control of the investigation, issuing a search and seizure warrant on the property. Crime scene detectives conducted a thorough search, eventually recovering and processing the remains of five separate individuals.

By working with law enforcement officials across state lines, investigators were able to link the discovery to five graves robbed from a cemetery in Worcester, MA.

Amador Medina, 32, of Hartford was taken into custody and subsequently charged as a fugitive from justice from Massachusetts.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hartford Police Department.

Medina told police he was using the skeletal remains for religious reasons. There is at least one Central American based religion known to use bodies for this purpose.
