New Haven Police investigate overnight homicide of 19-year-old

NEW HAVEN-Police are investigating a deadly shooting overnight on Clinton Avenue.

Police have identified the victim as Jonathan Aranda, 19, of New Haven. Police said Aranda was shot in the chest and went into cardiac arrest at the scene. Police found Aranda in the rear of the house. Aranda was rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Police don't have a suspect description but do describe the car seen speeding away after Aranda was shot as a light green of grey Honda Civic or Accord.

While police were investigating, a man jumped in  a red Honda Civic at the crime scene and sped away down Clinton Avenue heading downtown. Police eventually caught up with the driver and now have him in custody. Police did not say that he was a suspect in the homicide but a person of interest in the investigation.

The Major Crimes Division are speaking with witnesses and collecting evidence. Police are asking for the public's help with any information about the shooting. You can reach Police a 203-946-6304.
