New London Police investigate late night homicide

NEW LONDON - Police are investigating a late night shooting that left one man dead.

Police received several 911 calls around 11 p.m. Thursday about gunshots fired in the area of Connecticut Avenue and Grand Street. Police located a man with gunshot wounds on the front porch of 8 Grand Street. The victim was taken to a local hospital for life threatening injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after midnight.

Police identified the victim as Gilberto Olivencia, 29,  of New London.

Detectives from the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crimes Squad, Inspectors from the New London County States Attorney's Office as well as Detectives from the New London Police Department are actively investigating this incident.
