HARTFORD – “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” comes out this week — in case you haven’t heard.
You’ll have to wait until 7 p.m. Thursday, though, and if you want to dress up like Luke, Han, and Leia to see the new Star Wars movie and you’ll want to become familiar with the local theater policies, in the wake of recent movie theater violence.
According to the Regal Movies, with the new Star Wars movie coming, people are welcome to come to the theater dressed as their favorite characters, with the exception of wearing masks or bringing weapon-like props in the theatre.
At Bow Tie Cinemas, costumes are also welcome, but no face coverings, face paint, capes, cloaks, nor simulated weapons, including lightsabers and blasters, will be allowed in the building.
AMC Theaters doesn’t permit weapons nor items that would make other guests feel uncomfortable or detract from the movie-going experience. Guests are welcome to come dressed in costume, but masks and face paint aren’t permitted. Guests are encouraged to bring a lightsaber, but turn it off during the movie, and to leave the blaster and Darth Vader mask at home.
These policies were put in place after Colorado theater shooter James Holmes killed 12 people and injured 70 by firing upon a midnight movie showing of a Batman film.
