EAST HARTFORD — A fierce single-car accident on Interstate 84 led to a fatality and early morning road closure Saturday.

Emergency response crews rushed to the scene at approximately 4am, where a driver previously lost control and crashed while traveling westbound. The victim died from their injuries at the scene.

I-84 west was shut down in the exit 58 area for over two hours for an investigation. Traffic was diverted off and around the highway until about 7:30am. Most of the road was reopened for travel, with only the far left lane still blocked to travelers.

The motor vehicle operator is not being identified at this time. East Hartford Fire and State Police C.A.R.S. teams are working the scene.
