Woman’s body discovered in overnight fire in Hamden

HAMDEN — A 45-year-old woman is dead after a fire tore through a home on the New Haven city border early Saturday morning.

The Hamden Police Department Major Crimes Division is investigating the death of a woman, whose body was found by firefighters amidst a blazing house fire in the Newhallville neighborhood around 2 a.m.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire engulfing a home at 28 Lilac Avenue and began battling flames.

A body was removed from a home on Lilac Street after a fire.

They discovered a woman’s body on the second floor of the home. Fire officials later turned the scene over to Hamden Police detectives, who moved to remove the deceased individual from the area.

The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.

The cause and manner of the death is still unknown. The victim remains unidentified until police notify the family.
