SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — A judge has set a trial date for a Holyoke, Mass. man accused in the 2009 fatal shooting of a Connecticut National Guard soldier.
The Republican reports that 30-year-old Michael Rodriguez will go on trial May 9 in Hampden Superior Court on a murder charge.
Rodriguez has pleaded not guilty to killing 25-year-old Julian Cartie on a Springfield, Mass. street on Feb. 22, 2009.
Cartie was a former football star at New Britain High School. At the time of his death he was preparing for a deployment to Afghanistan with his National Guard unit.
Rodriguez was arrested last December in Bridgeport.
