MILFORD -- Brace yourselves: it could be Fradiani Fever Part II!

Another Nutmeg State native is crooning for the "American Idol" crown, and he's no stranger to the game.

His name is Dan Overlock, though his alter ego, "Two-a-Days," is currently the famous one. It's his personality on "The Dan Patrick Show."

Overlock keeps his chords crisp for Patrick, who sometimes calls on Overlock to perform live. That experience helped Overlock at his "American Idol" audition in Philadelphia this summer, he said.

"I've been here 5 1/2 years on the [Dan Patrick] show," said Overlock. "I was the most nervous going into the judges than I have been at any time during this show so that's just to show you how nerve-wracking it actually is."

His boss partially inspired the "Idol" tryout by calling on Overlock's pipes every now and then. Overlock once performed live with Darius Rucker.

"He's always singing, singing very low around the office and we finally realized that he could carry a tune," said Patrick.

Then, about three weeks after winning "Idol," Nick Fradiani was a live guest on Patrick's show. The host and singer "ganged up" on Overlock and convinced him to audition this season.

"How old are you? Dude, you can try out next year," Fradiani says.

It wasn't just a friendly nudge from a celebrity. Fradiani and Overlock have a years-long history.

"I knew him since high school. He was the captain of my basketball team," said Overlock. "After college, we moved in together, lived right down here in Milford together for about a year, did music together, wrote, played and all that kind of stuff."

Fradiani's friend's fate on "Idol" is still a secret.

"Well, I can't tell you," Overlock said. "It was a great experience. It's been fun, dealing with all the 'American Idol' people. It was kind of interesting seeing what Nick went through and going through the same thing."

He said to look for him on the "American Idol" auditions airing next week on FOX 61.

Patrick said he'll be watching closely.

"If she says no to my little Dan Overlock, she's going to crush his little heart, so J-LO, think long and hard about that," the sportscaster said.

"We'll see once the episode comes, but I appreciate the support from everybody and Nick reached out to me too, so it's been nice," Overlock said.
