NEW HAVEN – A Hamden 17-year-old was charged in the stabbing death of a New Haven man.

On New Year’s Day around 2 p.m. New haven Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Winthrop Avenue after a 911 caller reported someone a stabbing.

Police said the victim, Chamar Suggs, 34, of New Haven, was had been stabbed in the abdomen and had no pulse. Suggs was rushed to Yale–New Haven Hospital, where he underwent surgery. After surgery, Suggs’ condition was listed as stable.

Witnesses described an argument between Suggs and 17-yeard-old male. The argument escalated to violence when the teen allegedly stabbed Suggs with a kitchen knife, according to police.

Just after 9 p.m. Thursday Suggs was removed from life-support. He died as a result of the assault.

On Saturday afternoon, the 17-year-old, who lives in Hamden, turned himself in to police and was arrested He is charged with murder and has been remanded to the custody of the Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport. The teen has not been identified by police because he’s a juvenile.
