NORWALK – A Norwalk woman was arrested on animal cruelty charges after officials found conditions unfit for animals at her home.

The Norwalk Fire Department was called to an Ohio Avenue house for a broken water pipe that was flooding the home and found what they said were deplorable conditions. They notified police, animal control and the health department.

They found a dog at the home and while they were there the homeowner, Amanda Calabrese, 26, arrived at the scene.

After questioning Calabrese, officials determined she did not check on her dog and cat, that was not found, in two weeks, though she said she had somebody checking on them.

No water or food for the pets was found inside of the home, according to animal control, and the floors were covered with so much animal feces and urine, it made breathing difficult.

Calabrese was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. She is slated to appear in court January 20.
