WATERBURY -- A Waterbury man is hoping police track down the woman who hit his girlfriend with a car and ended up killing her.
Josh Cubero says 22-year-old Genesis Baez ran back in their Bronson Street home Monday morning to grab their 5-month-old daughter's coat while he waited in the car. When Baez tried to get back into his car, she was hit. Police said the driver of a Chevy Malibu first hit the front end of Cubero's Honda, then Baez, who was standing near the front passenger's side.
"[The driver] came flying through and hit the car and dragged her down the road," Cubero said. "I tried to pull her and I couldn't. She was just stuck under the car."
Police said the driver of the Malibu got out of the car and then ran off. Baez suffered serious injuries and died a short time later at the hospital.
Police said they have some good leads. They are looking for a woman in her 20s who is about 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-10.
If you know anything, or happened to be in the area of Cooke and Bronson streets Monday morning, please call Waterbury Police.
