SplashData released its annual list of most common passwords.

There were some common themes and reoccurring entries, but also some newcomers.

Patterns are very common, taking 11 of the top 25 spots. By patterns, we mean a number sequence–123456–or letter sequence–1qaz2wsx, or the first two rows on a keyboard.

“Star Wars” also showed its might on the list: princess (as in Leia), solo and starwars were all in the top 25.

The passwords are from mostly from users in North America and Europe. This was SplashData’s fifth time releasing the report, which uses data from password leaks.

“We have seen an effort by many people to be more secure by adding characters to passwords, but if these longer passwords are based on simple patterns they will put you in just as much risk of having your identity stolen by hackers,” said Morgan Slain, CEO of SplashData.
