HARTFORD — Towns across the state have opened warming centers to help residents in the cold weather.

Gov. Dan Malloy activated the state’s severe cold weather protocol which coordinates between the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, the Department of Social Services, the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and the Department of Housing to coordinate with 2-1-1 and shelters so the homeless, the elderly and others in need are protected from the severe cold weather.
