BOSTON – Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara visited injured Boston Pride forward Denna Laing in rehab on Wednesday.
Chara gave Laing, recovering from a severe spinal cord injury suffered at the NHL Winter Classic, a pair of high-heeled shoes.
Laing, 24, was left with limited movement in her arms and no sensation or movement below her chest after fracturing and shattering multiple vertebrae when she fell head-first into the boards. The former two-year captain for the Princeton women’s hockey team, has received an outpouring of support from the hockey community following her injury, and the Boston Bruins donated $200,000 toward Laing’s medical fund.
The team is also participating in a jersey auction with the Montreal Canadiens, as the rivals are auctioning off game-worn and autographed jerseys from their Jan. 19 game.
Montreal goaltender Mike Condon, whose time as a hockey player at Princeton overlapped with Laing’s collegiate years, sent Laing a Condon jersey autographed by the entire Canadiens team.
Laing updated the public through Facebook on her status Wednesday night.
