HARTFORD -- Here’s the 411 for Mike.  He's a fun dog, goof ball type. Mike is 9-year-old yellow Labrador Retriever. He’s a dog you want to spend time with and hang out.

He’s a fun, happy pooch, who won’t let his age fool you for a minute with all the spirit and energy of a young dog, which is typical of the Labs. He’s a good boy who didn’t get much training, so he’ll need a home to coach him through some basic boundaries, but his good nature is intrinsic.

Mike was rescued from local pound, where he was surrendered by his owner, after repeated offenses of taking a hike on his own. His owners paid him little attention, and he’d escape the yard to have his own walk-about.

Animal control worried that this would lead to other problems (i.e. car accident) so they had a heart-to-heart with the owners, who admitted their inability and lack of desire to own the dog, and they surrendered him to the pound. In Mike’s other home, there were kids, cats, and other dogs, and he got along with all.

His ideal home will take him on regular walks and make him part of the family.  A fenced yard is good, given his tendency to “hike.”  But if his new people get him out into the world and make him part of their family, he’d be happy to stay home with friends.
