HARTFORD--Almost 20 years ago a woman from Hartford was found stabbed to death outside a drug den.

On October 20, 1997, police were notified that a possible murder had occurred on Ashley Street, in the Asylum Hill neighborhood.

"A patrolman was actually flagged down by a woman in the area who said there was a body," a detective said.

They found Twana Smith in front of a drug den. Twana was troubled, and was a prostitute to help support her drug addiction.

Police say Twana fought hard based on the stab wounds on her hands. She was also stabbed in the face, neck, chest and other areas over body, and police say she may have been sexually assaulted.

Police have recently been looking into the case again, and old evidence has turned up new leads, and there are people of interest they are looking into. But they need help. If you have any information or were in the neighborhood in October 1997, please call Hartford Police.
