SOUTHINGTON — A 64-year-old woman was assaulted while attempting to dial 9-1-1 last Saturday.

The victim told police she was talking on the phone when she and suspect Cheryl Ann St. Amant, 36, of Southington, began to argue.

The confrontation escalated until the suspect eventually tried to pry the phone from the unidentified victim’s hands. At some point, St. Amant grabbed the elderly woman’s arm, shaking it and causing bruising.

After escaping her grip, the victim ran away and attempted to dial 9-1-1, but was confronted by St. Amant, who again tried to forcibly take the phone from her.

Police later arrived on scene and arrested St. Amant. She was charged with Assault of an Elderly Person, Disorderly Conduct, Interfering with an Emergency Call and Criminal Mischief.

The elderly woman did not require medical attention. St. Amant later posted a $5000 bond and was released pending her next court date.
