MANCHESTER — A single-car crash killed a man in Manchester on Friday evening.

Police were dispatched to the area of 550 Lydall Street at 9 p.m. in response to a reported motor vehicle accident.

Investigators determined a pickup truck had been traveling west when it careened off the roadway and struck a tree stump. The impact caused the vehicle to roll over and strike a Town of Manchester Water Department Pump House building. Both the truck and the building, a brick structure, sustained significant damage from the collision.

The driver was identified as John McHugh, 48, of Manchester. He died at the scene as a result of his injuries. No other occupants were in the vehicle at the time.

The road can be difficult to navigate under some circumstances, due to its winding corners. It is unknown whether sharp turns or speed played a factor in the deadly accident.

The Manchester Police Traffic Unit and Metro Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the incident. Any witnesses or individuals who stopped to render aid is asked to call the investigating officer at 860-645-5560.
